ABOUT

LEAH IBRAHIM SAMS

Hi! I’m Leah, a British-Malaysian illustrator based in London and the Artist and Founder at Power of Women.

My work is bold and striking, with a focus on colour, culture and fashion. My mission is for art to inspire and empower the next generation of women and girls.

To date, my art has been exhibited at the ADIDAS flagship store in London, my work won the Diversity Award at NFT.NYC, my collectors include SIA, and I’ve dropped two collections with MAN CITY FC.

Outside of art, I’m a lover of Malay cuisine, chillies and time spent on the Zumba dance floor.

JACK STOOKES

Jack, my husband, is a full-time Firefighter and part-time Operations Director at Power of Women.

He began his career in Stage Management at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden before becoming Head of Operations at Avex Classics International, with responsibility for the global touring of the company’s film concert productions.

Outside of saving cats stuck up trees and crunching the numbers at POW, Jack is a lover of coffee, travel and time spent dragon boat racing.

POWER OF WOMEN’S STORY

When I entered the digital art space in August 2021, there were very few female-led artists and collections, and women made up less than 5% of digital art collectors. As a complete novice and newcomer, not only was this incredibly daunting, but I felt it was my duty to proactively spark and drive a change. It was at this moment that Power of Women was born!

Fast forward two years, and my art has been exhibited at the ADIDAS flagship store in London, my work won the Diversity Award at NFT.NYC, my collectors include SIA and I’ve launched two huge digital art collections with MAN CITY FC.

But more than this, Power of Women has become a platform to amplify underrepresented voices and bring better representation to Web3, the art world, and beyond.

As a child, I always loved drawing and creating art. When I left school, I trained as a Set & Costume Designer before embarking on a career in theatre. While I’m grateful to have worked on some incredible productions around the world, I found that the industry wasn’t for me, and began suffering increasing anxiety around my work.

In 2019, I started illustrating women, at first for fun, but quickly found I could bring the elements of Costume Design that I loved to my illustrations. As my focus shifted towards drawing, my mental health improved dramatically too.

When the theatre industry shut down overnight due to Covid in March 2020, I took this as an opportunity to dive head first into a new career! My husband, Jack also shifted from working in the music industry to his current job as a Firefighter. The first crew he joined were super interested in crypto and digital art, and when they saw some of my work, they encouraged me to take the leap into Web3 too!
